About Me

Hello! I’m Samantha Curson, a professional vocalist, vocal coach, and the founder of Hear Me Sing vocal coaching academy, based in Derby.

🎶 A Little About My Journey

Music has been my passion for as long as I can remember. That love for singing led me to pursue a career in the music industry and ultimately to teaching — something I find incredibly rewarding.

I trained at the University of Derby, specialising in Popular Music and Creative Music Production. My qualifications include:

• BA (Hons) in Music

• FdA in Creative Music Production

• Grade 8 in Popular Music Vocals

• Musical Theatre certification from the University of West London

• BTEC National Diploma in Musical Theatre

Over the past 15+ years, I’ve performed professionally across venues throughout the UK. My hands-on experience in performance, combined with academic training, has allowed me to specialise in:

• Vocal technique

• Performance coaching

• Audition preparation

• Singing exam support

I’ve also completed Estill Voice Training Levels 1 & 2, and I’m a member of both the British Voice Association (BVA) and AOTOS (Association of Teachers of Singing). I’m a strong believer in continuing development and regularly attend conferences and training events to keep my practice current and effective.

🎤 My Teaching Philosophy

I’ve been teaching singing for over a decade and absolutely love helping others discover their unique voice. I work with students of all ages and abilities — from complete beginners to aspiring professionals — and tailor every lesson to suit their goals, confidence levels, and style.

Whether you want to prepare for a professional career, audition for a show, or simply sing for fun, I’m here to support and guide you.

🌟 Student Successes

I’m so proud of all my students and what they’ve achieved. Some have gone on to perform in West End productions like Les Misérables and Mary Poppins, while others have appeared on TV and film, including The Voice UK and The Worst Witch.

Many of my students — including those I teach via online singing lessons — have successfully auditioned for some of the UK’s top performing arts institutions.

🎭 Workshops & Directing

In addition to one-to-one vocal coaching, I also lead:

• Vocal workshops

• Musical theatre and drama sessions in schools and colleges across Derbyshire and the East Midlands

I also have experience as a musical director for youth theatre productions, including Seussical and Boogie Nights with Leicester Theatre Group.
